Alcesta Huntington sitting on her porch (circa 1910) Alcesta is stting on the porch of her circa 1880 converted carriage house. She might have acquired the carriage house when she bought 80 acres from Mattias Hoffman.

She gave permission to a man who worked for her, Alfred J. Elston, to convert the carriage house into a full house so that he and his family could move in. Sometime after the conversion, she added a private wing, complete with a separate entrance and staircase to her bedroom.

She used it as a getaway from the chaos at her residence on St. Paul Boulevard and lived there part time. The house still stands at 7 Wisner Road.

The land behind her in the photo would eventually contain the front horse paddock as well as Wisner Road.
